Congress decides to contest 77 seats they won in 2016

The Congress and the Left parties on Monday decided that in the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections, they contest the seats they won respectively in the 2016 polls. The Left-Congress alliance in 2016 won 77 seats. Congress emerged victorious in 44.

Congress leader Pradip Bhattacharya expressed hope that the seat-sharing arrangement completed by the end of this month.

In 2016, The Congress and Left Front fought together and bagged 77 seats in the 294-member assembly. During the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the proposed Congress-CPI(M) alliance fell apart . This after the parties unable to reach an agreement on seat sharing. In conclusion elections to the state assembly held in April-May this year.
