EC rolls out digital voter ID cards

The Election Commission rolled out the electronic version of the voters’ photo identity card on the occasion of the National Voters’ Day.

The e-voter card available in the PDF format which cannot be edited. The ID card stored on mobile phones and downloaded on personal computers. Similarly saved in facilities like digital locker. Electors in poll-bound West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry use the e-voter card on polling days. Elections due in these states and the union territory in April-May.

The digital card eliminates the need for a voter to get a new card each time. Therefore they eliminate the wait for delivery of the physical EPIC after approval. Voters who lost or damaged their EPIC card can download duplicate cards for free. However currently, this facility entails a payment of Rs 25.
