India’s first batch of Rafale fighters land in Ambala

After a flight of over 7000 km, the Rafale has landed at the Ambala Air Force Base. The Dassault Rafale is a French twin-engine, canard delta wing, multirole fighter aircraft designed and built by Dassault Aviation. These fighter jets took off from Merignac airbase in the French port city of Bordeaux and arrived at the Ambala Air Force Base at around 4:00 pm.
India had signed a Rs 59,000-crore deal on September 23, 2016, to procure 36 Rafale jets from French aerospace major Dassault Aviation. The first five from the batch have reached the Indian coast. The basic specifications of the three single-seater and two double-seater Rafale include:
•Wing span: 10.90 m
•Length: 15.30 m
•Height: 5.30 m
•Overall empty weight: 10 tonnes
•External load: 9.5 tonnes
•Max. take-off weight: 24.5 tonnes
•Fuel (internal): 4.7 tonnes
•Fuel (external): up to 6.7 tonnes
•Ferry Range: 3,700 km
•Top Speed: 1.8 Mach at high altitude
•Landing ground run: 450 m (1,500 ft)
•Service ceiling: 50,000 ft.
