Six-member gang selling fake vehicle insurance busted

The cyber crime wing of the city police busted a gang of six people. They sold fake insurance policies to truck and bus owners . Similarly made crores of rupees by luring gullible customers with competitive rates. Police seized gold jewellery weighing about 1.06kg worth 50 lakh. Several property documents, 9.5 lakh cash, a car, several phones and laptops from the gang members.

The gang of five men and one woman trapped victims by offering annual insurance premiums. The racket busted following an investigation based on a complaint by United India Insurance, which noticed sale of some suspicious insurance policies. Explaining their modus operandi, an official said if annual premiums of commercial vehicles range between 20,000 and 40,000 depending upon the nature of vehicles, the gang offered policies for as low as 16,000. The gang led by Mariappan, 40. A B.Com graduate who worked in insurance firms till 2016 before starting his own firm in Tirunelveli. The other accused include M Sumathi, 29, and Anand Senthurapandi, 40, who worked as an agent for Mariappan. Senthil Kumar Sengamalam, 47, a registered insurance agent. Similarly his subordinates Ansar Ali, 43 and Jain Alavudin, 40 of Pudukottai, helped Mariappan get customers.

In conclusion police said the gang claims to have cheated about 300 people.
