Tamil Nadu school reopening: Students screened and given vitamin doses

The public health department made a list of things to do when schools reopen in Tamil Nadu. They include screening of students and distribution of multivitamins. Schools reopen for students in classes X and XII on Tuesday.

The public health department said screening students in classes X and XII done in a week using teams of doctors working in the school health programme. Students also to receive doses of vitamin C and other multivitamins that helps boost their immunity levels.

The directorate of public health issued a circular directing directors of health services to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) relating to opening of schools.

The general guidelines asked officials to share the SOPs with schools. Similarly to provide sanitizers in each class, ensure campuses are clean and facilities for hand washing checked upon.

“We have asked PHCs to be ready to screen children for comorbidities,” said director of public health Dr T S Selva Vinayagam

All PHCs alerted to handle students with suspect Covid-19 symptoms. Similarly details of mobile medical units should be shared with schools.
