Tribal burnt alive for not returning Rs 5,000 taken during lockdown

A 32-year-old tribal man allegedly burnt alive for not returning Rs 5,000. He borrowed from an accused during lockdown in Guna district, 214 km north of Bhopal.

The victim, Vijay Sahariya rushed to a district hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

Police arrested the accused Radheshyam Lodha under section 302 (murder) of the IPC and under relevant sections of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Stated by police officer.

The farm labourer Vijay Sahariya borrowed Rs 5,000 from a farmer Radheshyam Lodha. Lodha was unmoved towards his requests and pleads. After a heated argument, Lodha beat Sahariya up. Lodha brought a can of kerosene oil from his house and poured the oil on Sahariya’s body. Lodha set Sahariya on fire. When Sahariya cried for help, the villagers rushed to the spot and tried to douse the fire.

When police arrested Lodha, he confessed his crime. The victim’s family provided a financial aid of Rs 8.50 lakh under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, stated the collector.
