A crucial meeting of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and some dissenters from the group of 23, apart from other senior leaders, began on Saturday morning. This with an aim to end the ongoing crisis in the party. Also to discuss steps needed to strengthen the organisation.

Former Union ministers and letter writers Shashi Tharoor and Manish Tewari, former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda (a part of the group of 23 leaders). The Congress general secretary incharge of Punjab, Harish RawatRawat. The party’s interim treasurer, Pawan Kumar Bansal also reached Gandhi’s residence.

A Congress functionary said Gandhi also keen to see an immediate end to the crisis. To discuss the ways to bolster the party. This suffered setbacks in recent by-elections as well as rural polls in Rajasthan.

The group of 23 signatories, also known as G-23 wrote to the Congress president in August. This seeking full-time and active leadership and introspection behind the “steady decline”. This of the 135-year-old organisation while outlining an 11-point action plan.
