States Restriction On Holi Celebrations : COVID-19




Continuous spike in the coronavirus cases some states impose to restriction on Holi celebration. The Center has advised states and Union Territories to impose restrictions under Section 22 ( Disaster Management Act. ). India has recorded more than 40,000 cases everyday since the last week.

Maharashtra has highest number of case increase per day by COVID-19. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) of Mumbai has restrictions on celebration of holi in Public or Private places of the city. Expert says possibility of second wave of coronavirus hitting the country. Maharashtra banned all public and private celebration of Holika Dahan & Rang Panchami and strict action will take place.

BMC post on Twitter ,”All private/public celebration of Holika Dahan & Rang Panchami has been prohibited to ensure Covid-19 doesn’t play a spoilsport. We request Mumbaikars to cooperate. Strict action will be take against offenders.”

Pune Municipal Corporation has also banned Holi celebration in the city as the high Covid-19 cases in the last 15 days.

Similarly, Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) too announce that there will be no public celebration of Holi. They also prohibited Shab-e-Barat and Navaratri in parks, public grounds, religious places and  markets within the city.

Haryana has also banned celebration of Holi due to the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in the country. Haryana Minister Anil Vij tweeted on Wednesday.

Chandigarh and Gujarat have also banned public celebration of Holi. Official statement says “People must celebrate the Holi festival at home while following Covid-19 protocals”.

Similarly. The Rajasthan and Odisha government is not taking any risk and has imposed a ban on Holi celebration in public places. State advice to people keep social distancing ,wear a mask ,be safe and follow all the Covid-19 protocols.
